Vc Verbs

Yesterday I purposely left out Vc verbs (for purely educational reasons of course), but we're going to cover them today. Vc verbs are our last type of transitive verb. You can identify a Vc Verb if it's followed by a direct object, and then immediately followed by a phrase functioning as an object complement.

Remember how Vg verbs function as giving and receiving? Well, in this case, Vc verbs function as the verb consider. (Hence the name Vc, as in "verb consider".)

Here is an example: (The verb will be in bold, the direct object will be yellow, and the object complement will orange.)

  • My classmates consider the teacher's class to be too hard.
See how the phrase "to be too hard" completes the ides of the verb? That's how the object complement works. It complements the verb and follows the direct object. Without the object complement the sentence wouldn't make any sense now, would it?

Congratulations! If you've been reading my posts that means you now know about every type of transitive verb. But don't just stop there. If you want to know more about Vc Verbs go buy this book to learn more about them. All information in this post was based on that book.
